What is a hero product?
A hero product is the one item you focus on for a few weeks. You learn it inside out, you make several posts and videos about it, and you become "the person who sells that useful thing". Other products can come later.
Why focus works
People buy one thing at a time. In real Sri Lankan online shops, 9 in 10 orders were a single item. Customers are not browsing your catalogue. They see one thing that solves a problem and they order it.
You answer better. When a customer asks "What size is it? Does it work with my car? How do I clean it?", you reply in seconds, with confidence. Our data shows that about half of enquiries became orders, and 3 in 4 of those ordered within a day. A quick, sure answer helps you win that day.
Your content gets better each time. The first photo you take will be ordinary. By the fifth, you will know the best angle, the best light and the one sentence that makes people ask the price.
People remember you. If your contacts see the same useful product a few times, explained in different ways, they start to recognise it. When they or a friend need it, they think of you.
How to choose your hero
- Stay in the sweet spot. Pick something whose selling price is roughly Rs 1,000–3,000. See the Rs 1,000–3,000 sweet spot for why.
- Pick a popular category. In real shops, the best sellers were home and living, kitchen, car accessories, gadgets and electronics, beauty, and baby products.
- Solve a clear problem. You should be able to finish this sentence: "This helps you ____." If you can't, choose another.
- Think of five people. Can you name five people you know who would find it useful? If yes, you have your first audience.
- Check the profit. The product page shows your price, the suggested selling price and your profit. Make sure the profit is worth your effort.
A two-week plan for your hero
This is a simple plan you can adapt to your own time.
- Days 1–2: Read the product page carefully. Save the photos and videos MyKade provides. Write down three questions a customer might ask, and the answers.
- Days 3–5: Share it to your WhatsApp Status once a day, each time showing a different use.
- Days 6–9: Post a short video of the product being used. Share it on Facebook or TikTok as well.
- Days 10–14: Share answers to the questions people actually asked. "Someone asked me if it fits a small car. Here's how it looks."
Keep a small note of every enquiry: who asked, what they asked, and whether they ordered.
When to change your hero
Give your hero a fair chance, about two weeks of steady sharing. Then look at your notes.
- People ask, but don't order: the price may be too high, or the total with delivery surprised them. Try explaining the total more clearly.
- Nobody asks at all: the product may not suit your circle. Pick a new hero from a different category.
- Orders are coming in: keep going, and add a second product that the same customers might like.
One hero, then a small family
Focus does not mean you sell only one thing forever. Once your hero sells steadily, add one related product, then another. A seller with three products they know well is in a stronger position than a seller with fifty they have never looked at closely.
