Taking your shop to Daraz

How selling in your own Daraz store differs from selling on WhatsApp and Facebook, which products suit it, and how to list honestly so buyers trust you.

📈 Growing your business · 3 min read

Most MyKade sellers start with people they know: WhatsApp Status, Facebook groups, a TikTok video. That is social selling: you go to the customer. A marketplace like Daraz works the other way round: the customer comes looking. MyKade lets you sell through your own Daraz store, so you can reach people who are already searching for something to buy.

How marketplace selling is different

On WhatsApp, a friend buys because they trust you. On Daraz, a stranger buys because your listing looks right when they search. That changes what matters:

  • Search, not friendship. People type what they want, such as "car phone holder" or "kitchen organiser". Your listing has to match those words.
  • Comparison is instant. The buyer sees several similar products side by side. Clear photos, an honest title and a fair price win.
  • Reviews follow you. Every buyer can rate your store. One misleading listing can cost you many future sales.
  • Daraz has its own rules and charges. These are set by Daraz, not by MyKade. Read Daraz's seller terms carefully before you start, so you know exactly what applies to your store.

Which products suit a marketplace?

Products people search for by name usually do better than impulse buys that need a story. In real Sri Lankan online shops, the best-selling categories were home and living, kitchen, car accessories, gadgets and electronics, beauty, and baby products. Many of these are things people actively look for.

Some useful questions before you list a product:

  1. Would someone type this into a search box? "Vegetable chopper" yes; "something nice for the house" no.
  2. Can a photo show it clearly? Marketplace buyers can't ask you questions as easily as on WhatsApp.
  3. Is the price in a comfortable range? Our data from about 5,000 orders shows 9 in 10 items sold cost Rs 1,000–3,000.
  4. Is it hard to get wrong? Products with many sizes or colours can lead to "not what I expected" returns.

Writing a listing buyers trust

Your listing is your only salesperson on a marketplace. Make it honest and complete:

  • Title: say what it is, plainly. No other brands' names, no "best in Sri Lanka", no exaggeration.
  • Photos: use real photos of the actual product. The MyKade product photos and videos are a good start.
  • Description: size, material, what is in the box, how to use it. Answer the questions you'd be asked on WhatsApp.
  • Price: fair and consistent with what you charge elsewhere. A buyer who finds you much cheaper on your shop link may feel cheated.

Never write fake reviews or ask friends to write them. Apart from being dishonest, it destroys the trust that makes marketplace selling work. Read more in honest selling builds a business that lasts.

Don't abandon your social selling

Daraz is an extra door into your shop, not a replacement. The people who know you, who reorder and recommend you, are still the heart of your business. When customers know and reorder from the seller, about 96% of parcels were delivered in our data. Keep your WhatsApp, Facebook and shop link going, and treat Daraz as a way to meet new buyers.

A sensible way to start

  1. Start small: list three to five products you already sell well and understand.
  2. Watch which ones get views and orders, and which get questions.
  3. Improve the titles and photos of the ones that get views but no orders.
  4. Only then add more products.
